There are currently two versions of HyperNext Studio available and both are very similar:-

V4.x are updated versions built with a more modern compiler and have many bug fixes and improvements. They also includes some database functionality and run on the latest versions of Windows & OS X(up to Yosemite). V4 has dropped support for Macintosh OS 9(Classic).

Version of v4.1 and earlier can build apps for both Macintosh and Windows but v4.2 is Windows only.

Version 4.3 has a new save/load format necessary for future versions running on macOS & OSX, Windows and Linux.

V3.83 was built with a much older compiler and was was last updated several years ago. It still works on Windows and Macintosh platforms although it does not work on OS X Lion and above. It can run on and build apps for Macintosh OS 9(Classic).

Each platform version of v3 can build apps for both Macintosh and Windows.

Most of the projects still work except for SQLite database which is version 4 only.

V3 is no longer under development.

Note, v4 can load v3 projects but not visa versa.

Computer Requirements

V3.83 will run on very old computer hardware, even 100MHz computers. In contrast V4.x needs newer hardware with more memory.

HyperNext Studio v4.2:

  • Windows XP to 10.
  • Screen size 1000x720 pixels minimum.


HyperNext Studio v4.x:

  • Macintosh OS X(Mactel or PPC) v10.15 to Yosemite.
  • Windows XP to 10.
  • Screen size 800x600 pixels minimum.


HyperNext Player v4.x:

  • Macintosh OS X(Mactel or PPC) v10.15 to Yosemite.
  • Windows XP to 10.



HyperNext Studio v3.83:

  • Macintosh OS 9 to OS X(Mactel or PPC) v10.15 to Snow Leopard.
  • Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8 10.
  • Free memory 35 MB.
  • Processor speed of 100 MHz or more.
  • Screen size 800x600 pixels minimum.


HyperNext Player v3.83:

  • Macintosh OS 9 to OS X(Mactel or PPC) v10.15 to Leopard.
  • Windows 98 SE, XP, Vista, 7.
  • Free memory 35 MB.
  • Processor speed 100 MHz or more.
